Your resume is your first impression, and in today’s market, first impressions matter more than ever. Here are 10 tips to make your resume stand out from the rest.
#1 Tailor your resume based on the job you’re applying to. Employers now expect resumes to closely align with their specific job requirements.
#2 Optimize your resume for AI and applicant tracking systems by using simple, structured formatting within your resume and headings.
#3 Include the link to your LI profile and link to your portfolio (if applicable) along with your contact info.
#4 Make sure your LinkedIn profile is job-search ready – professional photo, professional summary section, correct dates and titles in your work experience and education sections.
#5 Keep photos, references, and typos off your resume.
#6 For contact info, include the closest city to where you live, i.e. "Greater Boston Area.” No need to include your street address.
#7 Don’t skip the professional summary. This acts as the anchor to your resume and provides an opportunity to explain why you’re the right fit for a job.
#8 Months are not required for employment dates, but years are.
#9 Keep your resume to two pages.
